Flooring
ANSWER:  What you like should dictate your decision on wood or carpet, tile or vinyl.  Many options are available from which to choose.  Smooth sleek light flooring compliments contemporary furnishings.  A medium stain is most often used for a traditional look and darker, distressed flooring creates a rustic or English cottage look.     Keep in mind that wood flooring, while beautiful and lasting requires skill and time to install.  One reason so many people are opting for engineered or laminate flooring, is it can be installed in a day.  Even bamboo flooring is now available.  It's attractive and durable.  Of course, linoleum and vinyl are always popular.     Wood floors warm the cool starkness of contemporary design.  Adding an area rug to anchor your grouping of furnishings creates an inviting gathering place.  Wood floors in the traditional home are just as inviting, whether light, dark, medium or washed, when combined with cozy sofas and chairs.  If your furniture is darker than your floors, don't forget to add an area rug to balance your room.  A 4 x 6 may be all you need to do the trick, placed in front of the sofa, it provides the perfect anchor.     Wood flooring is robust enough to withstand lots of traffic yet adds a soft earthiness to your space.  A natural choice for a dining room, it's durable and easy care and once it becomes unattractive with wear of the ages, you can sand and re-stain and restore it to it's original beauty.  Keep your flooring simple, as the background of your canvas.  If pattern is easily removable, you'll have more design options for your room. Choosing a busy floor pattern locks you into a certain style and could be cause for regret in the future.     Most importantly, make your rooms reflect the personality of the persons therein.  Whether the fun modern mover and shaker, or the steady, reliable rock, go with the beautiful person inside.
