Cleaning stained carpet
ANSWER: This is one of the most frequently asked questions. There are a couple of products that you should have and keep in your chemical products closet for immediate use. First of all, immediate attention to a spill is the best ap-proach to insuring that the stain may be re-moved now or when the professional arrives.   The first thing to do is to use an absorbent cloth and blot away as much of the excess fluid or residue as possible. This insures a minimum of residue remaining. The next step is to determine if the spill is water-based or petroleum (oil)-based. This determines what products you should use to aid in the removal of the stain. Use a water-based chemical for water-based stains, and a petroleum-based chemical for all others stains.      Technique is almost as important as the product you use. The two products you want to keep in your cleaning closet are 1) an all-purpose cleaner which is almost always a water/detergent based product, and 2) a P.O.G. (paint, oil and grease) remover for all oil-based stains (paint, grease, oil, tar and others).   Always call a professional as soon as possible after a stain appears. This will keep your carpet looking fresh for years to come.
