How do I make my home resellable?
ANSWER: Many inexpensive things can be done to prepare your home. A buyer  first notices the yard, landscaping, and condition of the siding, windows and roof. Make sure your home has curb appeal.   First, remove any clutter. What you see as treasure may appear as trash to a prospective buyer. Anything that is not a necessity to live should be put in storage, or have a yard sale. Less is more and it makes the home appear larger. Keep it nice and open. Visualize your home through the eyes of a prospective buyer.   Personal momentos should be kept to a minimum. The house should look lived in, but be "vanilla" enough for the shoppers to envision living there with their own things. For children's bedrooms or playrooms, leave just enough to make the rooms look happy and lived in.   Paint is one of the least expensive updates, and the most important. It makes the home appear fresh and adds to the cleanliness. Clean everything thoroughly. Nobody wants to buy a dirty home. Make sure that all appliances are clean, whether they're staying or moving with you. Have the carpets professionally cleaned.   Replace any worn shower curtains, window coverings, linens, etc. Look for sales on these items. You don't have to love them; they just need to look like you do.    Complete any small repairs such as a leaky faucet, a non-working ceiling fan or built-in appliance. Replace burned out light bulbs, missing fixtures or electrical outlet covers.     If you have pets, try to have them visit a friend while showing the house. A barking dog can be an unwelcome distraction and can bring attention to any pet odors or wear and tear.   If you are planning to list your home with a professional real estate agent, contact them even if you're not ready to put your home on the market. They can furnish you with valuable tips on preparing for the sale, and be looking for just the right place for you when the sale happens.
