ANSWER: It has become the industry standard to price carpets by the square foot, since most people relate to square feet better than square yards.  Also, as hard surface products become more mainstream it makes it easier to compare the price of carpet to tile, wood or laminate.  Either way it is the total price of the job installed that is important as well as the quality of the installer.  What does "twist" mean in regards to carpet?The best way to describe twist is for you to think of the spring in a ball point pen - the tighter you compress the spring, the more bounce there will be when it springs back. Twist is like the spring, generally, the tighter the twist; the more likely it is to "bounce back". Higher twist levels allow your carpet to maintain its original appearance longer.How important is the pad under my carpet?The cushion under your carpet is one of its most important components. It is the base that helps the carpet retain its texture and appearance. A cushion is sold by its thickness and density. Low quality pad (i.e., a pad that is too soft) can adversely affect the performance of the carpet. Also, a pad that is too thick may interfere with the anchoring of the carpet.  It is important to use a firm, dense cushion to extend the life of your carpet.  Another factor to consider is that many new cushions have antimicrobial properties that provide a little insurance regarding spills.  Can I use my existing pad?Normally not.  Most of the time the manufacturer will not warrant the carpet if you use your old pad.  When you consider all the traffic your floor gets and all the dirt and spills that get through your carpet into your cushion it is a good time to replace that cushion.  Next time we will answer some questions about stain resistancy, color, and tips on select
